One for Collingwood supporters (Magpie bud vase)

Friday 02 January, 2009 - 08:55 by AnitaReay.com in Default

views (100) | rating ooooo (0 votes)

This little bud vase was thrown on the wheel and then altered by adding branches and leaves. I then hand sculpted the three little magpies and attached them using liquid clay, fired it twice in my kiln (1280 degC) and beautiful porcelain is formed.

I think these must be the funniest little fellows in the bird world, they are so aggressive towards each other and have such short tempers, here's a shot I took of two having an altercation on the fence.

A kookaburra and a hopeful crow

Friday 23 May, 2008 - 08:18 by AnitaReay.com in Default

views (125) | rating ooooo (0 votes)

Our back fence is the boarder to the national park and so we have many wildlife visitors, my favourites are the kookaburras of course and once you get to know them you discover they have quite mischievious personalities (such as bringing down all of my crystals and using them to play kooka football) I've snapped hundreds of photos of all types of birds but just had to get some shots of the hopeful crow.

Kooka has found himself a piece of meat (probably pinched from next doors dog bowl) but isn't eating it, he's just sitting on the fence holding it in his beak, crow has landed beside him thinking he has a chance at the meat and does a funny little dance trying to persuade the kooka to hand it over, it was hard to take the photos as it looked so funny, here are a few of the shots.

Kookaburra wall plaque

Saturday 05 April, 2008 - 18:58 by AnitaReay.com in Default

views (127) | rating ooooo (0 votes)

This is my first wall plaque, he is quite large (23cm high) and he was created by first rolling out some clay, then drawing a kookaburra on a log shape, I then rolled out more clay and added the wings to give a 'relief' look, I added bits of clay to the head for feathers and rolled some more clay for his tail feathers. He was then allowed to dry, painted with underglaze and fired twice (the 2nd firing the clear glaze was added to provide a permanent protective glossy finish)

koala tea light holder sculpture

Sunday 13 January, 2008 - 16:03 by AnitaReay.com in Default

This little fellow was created using a technique I recently learnt, bisque high, glaze low (usually it is the other way around) however I'm very pleased with the result, the colours are richer and there are no runs.

Welcome

Friday 11 May, 2007 - 11:01 by AnitaReay.com in Default

views (584) | rating ***** (1 votes)

Hi Everyone,

Well I'm afraid I'm not much of a talker, and don't really like talking about myself but they say a picture paints a thousand words which is great, because I'm into painting (and sculpting)

So I thought I'd post some of my paintings here from time to time, I've been painting miniature paintings called ACEOs which are a quite a craze in the US and just starting to take off here. They are miniature original works of art, the size of baseball cards, fun to collect. You can have a gallery of original artworks right there on your  coffee table. To find out more about them type ACEO into the eBay search field.

For my sculptures I use porcelain or earthenware clay to hand build & sculpt my tiny miniature figurines, which are mostly of animals and fire them in my high fire kiln.

The main thing is to have fun, thanks for stopping by. :)

Anita
